With elements inspired by both colonial and English country style, it feels quaint and welcoming. For the first time in several years, I didn’t start out decorating for Christmas with a color scheme in mind. As I mentioned in my wreath post, I knew I wanted something mixed between Colonial Williamsburg and the English countryside, but I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to bring that about.
Not your typical Christmas decor colors, but the perfect compliment to the elegant but earthy feel I wanted to bring into our home for the holidays. I reused the brown ribbon from our woodland bedroom tree last year which created a base for the rest of our ornaments. Since we lost all of our family ornaments in our house fire a few years ago, I did a bit of a “formal,” styled tree mixed with the few new ornaments we’ve collected the past few years.
My favorite addition are the little Delft birds I picked up a few weeks ago from a local store. I’ve been envisioning a mantel filled with lush greenery and seasonal fruit, just like something straight out of Little Women. After some DIY wrangling, lots of rearranging, a serious command hook failure, 500 twinkle lights, and lots of faux fruit stripped from every fall wreath and storage box – I finally brought my vision to life.
