So you’ve decided to start working out at home and are looking for garage gym ideas, huh? For me personally, it’s been the best decision to prioritize my health and time spent with my family.

I gathered all that info and put together a massive list of my ideas and the knowledge other garage gym owners have amassed throughout the years. Some of these garage gym ideas took a lot of brain power and trial and error.

Why not list some of that online for sale and start saving for that piece of equipment you must have! They’re 4 x 6 feet long and 3/4 inch thick so they cover a lot of floor space.

Spend the extra money on quality equipment that will last you a lifetime so you only have to buy it once. You can always deals and discount gym equipment online from reputable retailers.

Also look for quality used equipment from Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, and other social selling sites and garage sales. Just make sure it’s made of heavy duty quality material so it can last a long time and you don’t have to replace things constantly. Gym equipment takes up a lot of space and is heavy. One company that prides themselves in offering free shipping regardless of order quantity or size, is Titan Fitness so check them out.

Start with the fundamentals and don’t spend money on gimmicky equipment. A quality barbell , weight plates, bench , and a set of dumbbells will get you a long way. Racks, specialty bars , and many other pieces of equipment are expensive so if you want something badly, there is nothing wrong with putting in a little work. Then turn around and list it online for higher so you make a little bit of money.

Repeat that over and over again until you’ve made enough profit to get the expensive piece of equipment you want. Don’t clutter up the floor space you worked so hard to clear.

I’ve used my wall to hang my PRx Performance foldable rack , dip bar , weight plates , jump ropes , resistance bands , parallettes, sledge hammer, and other miscellaneous accessories. I’ve used tire hangers to hold my weight plates and a lot of other stuff on the wall. Good lighting will make you appreciate your gym more and lift up your mood. These lights screw in to the socket just like a regular lightbulb and are better at energy usage as well.

The easiest way to clean things up is to lift both garage doors, get to the back wall, and turn on your leaf blower to get all the crud out. The leaf blower will get to nooks and crannies your broom won’t so you’ll probably see stuff on the floor you’ve never seen before.

Know your training style so you stick to equipment that will benefit your goals and workouts. Make sure you get some fans blowing your way to get the air flowing and help you evaporate sweat off your skin.

I hooked these up to the bracket that connects the garage door track to the ceiling so I didn’t have to drill holes.

Garage floors require a slight slope for drainage so water from the outside doesn’t pool on the inside.

This can throw a curve ball on your plans when setting up a rack or deadlift platform. When it comes to leveling off your squat rack, you may need to squeeze some metal shims or UHMW plastic below the uprights.

When I’m working out my kids know they need to give me space so that they don’t accidentally get hit with a dumbbell or anything I’m moving around.
