Game time decision on bathroom pony wall

I’m having a design dilemma I need to make a game time decision.Due to space constraints, we have to build a pony wall separating the tub and the shower stall.I really want a 36 inch pony wall.

Game time decision on bathroom pony wall
I prefer more glass than wall.

My contractor is trying to talk me into a 42 inch b/c he is concerned with tile on pony wall being seamless with the horizontal width of tub.He is taking the ceiling to the height over tub as well.I told him I’d want larger tiles 18x24 or more. What would you go with?Is 36 inch wall a bad idea?

Shower pony wall taller than tile wainscoting

They have a pony wall with glass above.I made the pony wall 48" tall (taller than the architect spec'd :-(I planned to have tile wainscoting at the same level to have the tile at the same level as the wall.

Shower pony wall taller than tile wainscoting
And (here is the problem) the planned tile intersects the middle of the light switch.

this picture looks nothing like our subway tile but this is the look I was going for.

will my showers look awful having the wainscoting tile 3" lower than the pony wall??

A pony wall provides the function of a wall, yet enables an open design and clear ceiling line.We were able to have slabs poured that were placed on the shower curb, up the end of the pony wall, and on top of the pony wall.

So then I looked into purchasing a store-bought shower pan like these, but since I wanted a tiled shower floor, that was a no-go for us.

The drawback to going this route was cost – the tray, flange, grate, waterproofing band, and curb was around $360 total. Finally, I waterproofed the shower floor and curb with the Kerdi waterproofing corners and tape.

Bungalow Barn Update: Bathroom Plans

Last time I blogged about the Bungalow Barn, it didn’t have a roof or sides……but BOY a lot can change in a couple of weeks! The bathroom is going to be down at this end, and that’s our house on the left side of that photo.

There is one bathroom window on the car pad side of the barn though…Here’s a reeeeally rough sketch of how everything will be laid out inside the bathroom:You’ll notice there’s going to be a barn sliding door that covers the washer and dryer. One half wall will sit next to the commode, and the opposite half wall will sit next to the laundry cabinets/counter.Kind of like this:Obviously hers will look much different (sliding door in front of the washer & dryer, no window, no cubbies, etc.

Remove or keep Pony Wall in Bathroom?

In the middle of a bathroom remodel and I'm just not feeling this half wallIf i remove no privacy (that's what locked doors are for I guess)If I get rid of it I believe it will make my bathroom look bigger.Any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

how to get streamlined look from an alcove tub with tile flange.

in an ideal world, I would have a tub with an apron on two sides (long, and short side opposite the drain), and tile only to sides (side with the drain, and the back wall long side).(See last photo below for the "look" I'm going for).

how to get streamlined look from an alcove tub with tile flange.
So the better option is to create a pony wall about the same height as the "third" side.

BUT as all sides of tubs today have the built-in tile flange, you really end up needing to tile the third side as well, so that means you have to have at least some height above the tub on the third side (unless you can get rid of the flange).

The last photo below is exactly what I would like, but i believe this is with a drop-in tub and requires a lot more labor expense (plus surrounding platform) than I can spend.

Very high Pony wall for Shower.

So I am going to replace the tub/shower combo, with just a stall shower.Due to the configuration of the bathroom, slightly less than half the length of the shower stall will be covered by the vanity.

Very high Pony wall for Shower.
So what I wanted to do was use a pony wall, but I really did not want the standard thing I have seen online, where there is a 4 ft high pony wall, and then glass on top.I would rather the pony wall go up to say 77" which is right around where the shower curtain rod is currently.

I think I will be using a short shower rod and narrow curtain to cover the remaining enter/exit to the shower.
