How We Made Our Hidden Door in the Bonus Room

Though this was my first time building a hidden door and I was a little nervous, she was right – it made such a difference in the space.Of course every situation is unique, but following are the steps that I took to build and install this hidden door (otherwise known as a jib door), with the paneling.

I set the door in place using shims to hold it up, then I marked the hinge locations on the door frame and routed those out as well.

I added the paneling to the wall above the door, then continued onto the door one piece at a time.

How to Build a Hidden Door

Fit the baseboard against your door, making sure it sits flat against the door with its top edge aligned with its neighbors, then glue and tack it in place.

Hidden Doors, Secret Rooms, and the Hardware that makes it

One of the most popular videos I’ve ever posted is the one on hidden doors that I made several years ago.I love doing these hidden doors, partly because the Sugatsune hardware I’m using is so sweet.

Secret Door for Tile Walls

One that jumped out at us is their Secret Access Door for Tiling.It’s a simple access door, with hinge and welded aluminum frame, that’s designed to build into your wall.

Then you can apply the tiles to the door, and the surrounding frame.

There is a 1/16th inch space around the door, so using a dark grout would probably help conceal the door.This type of door isn’t needed everywhere, but it’s nice to have this base option to build from when it is needed.

The main living space is anchored at each end with bespoke wall to wall furniture units in ultra-matt, clear sealed, dark grey through-coloured MDF, topped with black pitted bespoke concrete worktops.
