RAST Ikea Hack - Home With Stefani

I didn’t have any luck… so I turned to Ikea and got these $40 RAST dressers.Check out the YouTube tutorial and the steps below for this fun Ikea hack!Cost: Ikea RAST dressers: $40 (2), Paint: $16, Drawer knobs: $4 each, 2″ x 2″ Lumber: $1.98, Project Panel: $14STEP 1: Assemble RAST dresserAssemble your RAST Ikea furniture according to the directions.For this Ikea hack I didn’t use the bottom support piece that it comes with.

STEP 2: Cut plywood baseUsing a circle saw, cut your 3/4″ plywood the same size as the bottom of your dresser.

It’s just so cool what you can do with the plain wood pieces that IKEA sells at very affordable prices.I put my IKEA rast dresser together all by myeslf in just under 30 minutes.

When I was contacted about receiving a rast dresser, hardware and paint to do an IKEA Rast Hack I was pretty happy.

The IKEA Rast Hack comes with two wood knobs per drawer.

As I said, my finished IKEA Rast Hack is simple – I like to think it is elegantly simple.

DIY Dining Room Buffet

It goes without saying that I love a good IKEA Rast hack, don’t you?Shave down each of the two outside pieces (to 24 /14″ long pieces) leaving only extra width enough to accommodate the thickness of your 1×4 braces, they’ll be attached to on the bottom.Make sure to lay your pieces out and measure first to be sure your measurements will be the same!At this point, you’ll add your 1×4 braces to the bottom.To add the legs, pre-drill a slightly smaller hole, screw in the legs.

A couple of months ago I was contacted by marketing for Hickory Hardware, asking if I would be interested in participating in an Ikea Rast Hack challenge.That’s where you take a very simple piece of Ikea furniture and put your own twist on it.

I was provided the Ikea Rast, hardware of my choice, and a $25 gift card to purchase materials for the challenge.

I cut molding to trim out the drawers, using a miter saw which I added using wood glue.

I love how this little piece turned out:A set of these would make pretty night tables although they are quite shallow.

Use pocket hole screws or corner brackets to attach dresser B top to dresser B right leg.

Dresser B: Attach stretcher to dresser B right leg using supplied screw.If using pocket holes, drill 2 pocket holes into each end (4 total).

We used this filler and then sanded it smooth when it was dry.Rupe was a bit nervous about using the paint sprayer for the first time but, with me being pregnant, I didn’t want to get involved and handed off my usual painting duties to him and he aced it!Finally, we let everything dry outside and then put on the new hardware and filled it with cute onsies and all things baby.We also plan on attaching a changing pad to the top of the dresser to make this our changing station.

Easy IKEA Rast Makeover

There are a PLETHORA of ways to take these babies up a notch, so they were a perfect choice for us in our budget-friendly master bedroom makeover.You can certainly check out Pinterest for some really impressive “hacks” and makeovers of the Rast, but if you want a very simple and effective before + after, read on!

I knew I didn’t want to spend any time changing the “bones” of these (adding legs, etc), but I wanted to add a modern finish and updated hardware.

This helps SO much with opening up the wood grain and makes for a much more even finish.White-washing “won,” because it was so hot and dry out that day that the dry brush dried too quickly to blend well.

So, I took two of these Ikea Rast dressers......and turned them into this:The first thing I did was find the color.I painted two coats of the glossy paint and followed that with two coats of glossy poly.I know this piece will take a beating so I wanted to protect is as much as possible!

DIY Cane Nightstand Ikea RAST Hack TUTORIAL

My squared off RastThe OG RastTBH, I’m not a big fan of the ‘kick plate’ at the bottom of the dresser.Rotate your kick plate parallel to the floor (mirroring the center brace) so that the top of the kick plate is facing outward and the face is pointing down.SECURE THE BASE:Now that your drawers are installed, it’s time to secure the kick plate with a second screw.Hold the kick plate securely in place and drill through the side of the dresser into the ends of the kick plate.Install it on the backside of the stand by pre drilling two pilot holes on each side of the nightstand into the kick plate.

So when a blogging opportunity came along to do a makeover (hack) of a plain Ikea dresser and turn it into something a little different, I thought “Here’s a way to just make my own foyer table!”Getting Started on the Ikea Dresser MakeoverThis project began with an unfinished Ikea Rast 3-Drawer dresser like the one below.They extended 3-1/2″ beyond the bottom of the dresser which created the look of table legs that I wanted.Here’s the Ikea Rast Dresser all dressed up and in its final place as a foyer table by the front door.
