To be honest, I wasn’t crazy about it until I tried a furniture refinishing project with milk paint.Another Milk Paint Furniture Refinishing ProjectI am sure you remember that I painted a cheap mirror with milk paint last week.Milk paint automatically produces a bubbly paint texture, which is a perfect “chippy” distressed look.

Milk paint comes in powder form and will bubble and create a chippy look when it dries.

Custom White Milk Paint Dresser

When I finished it, I put the hardware back on and took some pictures, but it just wasn’t working for me.The hardware just isn’t right for the piece and, while I love the blue & white quilt, I didn’t love it as a backdrop for this piece.

So, I ordered different hardware for it and reworked some things while I was in the studio today.

Here is how the piece started…It’s actually a sweet piece and wasn’t bad at all, but the wood is a bit too orange for my taste.

I left the top as is and painted the body of the piece in a custom mixed white – equal parts MMS Milk Paint Mora and Farmhouse White.

Normally when using milk paint, you dont have to prime 1st, but i wanted to do a little test and see how it went.I decided on a custom color for this one and mixed up some milk paint in Sea Green and Slate – 50/50 ratio – both colors are from Old Fashioned Milk Paint.This helps when glazing over milk paint otherwise it would be to flat and porous and make the glaze really splotchy.This time, the milk paint didnt chip or flake off at all.The 411Color = old fashioned milk paint in Sea Green and Slate, mixed 50/50Wax/Glaze finish = check tomorrows post for how to!!

Yes, I love to paint just about everything, but I do love natural wood as well.After it dries completely, sand with 100 , 150, and 180 grit sandpaper in that order.Again, sand in between coats with 500 grit sandpaper to create an extra smooth finsihThe legs are done in Farmhouse White from Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.I simply painted on 3 coats, sanded back with 220 grit sandpaper, cleaned dust with a microfiber cloth, and then applied the topcoat.
