Joseph DanielGuestJoined: Sun Aug 8th, 2010 Location: Brownwood, Texas USA Status: OfflineFrom what I can tell from your pictures there is a switch ontop of the motor that should turn it on if it dosent there is probably a switch somewhere for it.Someone may have in the past disconnected it.

First try and see if the blades turn freely if they do than that is a good sign.

if you can try takeing off the bullet on the back and test for voltage with a volt meter if there is no electricity making it to the fan you can either try and find wherer it was disconnected and try and reconnect it or wiring a cord right up to the motor. If it has been disconnected try looking in or around circut/fuse boxes and junction boxes for the wires I gaurentee you if the fan isn't getting electricity that soneone probably just disconnected it when working on the electrics and never put it back.

Inspecting the Kitchen Exhaust

A local intermittent exhaust fan in the kitchen should reduce the levels of contaminants and moisture in the kitchen. The minimum best practice for a local intermittent exhaust fan in the kitchen is to have the fan ducted to exhaust outside of the home, not into the attic.

Inspecting the Kitchen Exhaust
Although a single-point exhaust fan, such as a kitchen fan, could be used to provide code-required whole-house ventilation, this strategy is not recommended.Kitchen exhaust fans may be installed by an HVAC contractor or by a kitchen range installer, if it is part of that system.

Air Flow RequirementsTo fulfill the local exhaust air flow requirements of modern construction standards, kitchen fans can be run intermittently (occupant-controlled) or continuously.

In the kitchen is an exhaust fan that sits inside a 3.25x10 duct.I would like to keep an exhaust fan in this location and re-use the existing duct, however, the fan motor is froze. The fan motor plugs into an 110VAC receptacle (no ground) and is countersunk into a sort of frame that is inside the duct.

Googling 10x3.25 exhaust fan, I found some like this one here, however, it's not clear if that's meant to go into a 10x3.25 duct or is a replacement part for some sort of larger assembly.
