why put a tub in the shower?

Merging the tub and shower is certainly not a new idea. But if you have more floor space, would you put a tub in the shower?

why put a tub in the shower?
Option one is to separate the tub and shower from the rest of the bathroom, perhaps by using a glass wall.

Another benefit of putting a tub in the shower, pending the layout and design, is the creation of a curbless shower. When the shower is within a built-in tub, installation and water protection are more straightforward.

Wetroom shower with freestanding tub

I’m starting to see more and more of these wetrooms, but I can’t figure out how standing water on the floor around the tub is managed?A claw foot tub could be shimmed on a sloped floor, but I was under the impression these acrylic tubs had to be sealed flat to the tile with caulk - as such, either these bathrooms suffer from standing water around the tubs because the tub is on a level floor, or the tubs are actually not level.Or maybe there’s a hidden drain in the back?

They look great in the photos, but sometimes reality doesn't match quite so well. Our top priorities:1) Nice bathtub for her (she didn't have one in the last house and this one SHALL have a nice bathtub in the master bathroom)2) Adequate shower for me (32x48 minimum)3) 5' minimum vanity with 1 sink (counter space is more contended than the sink for us)4) Adequate storage (vanity plus over-toilet cabinet worked well at Spring Ct)For example:

Tub vs Shower: The Big Bathroom Remodeling Design Decision

Showers come as stalls enclosed with doors or curtains and walk-in showers without doors or curtains.Standard bathtubs and shower stalls are at the low end, while whirlpool tubs and walk-in showers are pricier.

Tub vs Shower: The Big Bathroom Remodeling Design Decision
You can have a whirlpool tub installed for an average of $4,500, less than three-fourths of what you’d pay for a walk-in shower, priced at $6,000 on average.A standard shower stall or walk-in shower displaces only nine square feet on average, whereas a standard-sized tub occupies roughly 13 square feet.

There are, however, easy access walk-in tubs with a built-in door and a bench, but they’re pricey, averaging $5,500, installed.

Selecting the Bathroom Fixtures

Make a stand-up shower more sleek and space conscious by using a glass door that slides, rather than opens.A sliding glass door can be more expensive than a shower curtain, so you may opt for the curtain if you are budget-conscious.

Selecting the Bathroom Fixtures
You could also choose a seamless glass door that swings open on hinges for a sleek look.

Put the towel rack on the back of the bathroom door if you do not have space on the walls in the bathroom.

Some glass shower doors have hooks or rods to hang towels.

How to Maximize Space in a Cramped Rowhouse Bathroom

Like many DC rowhouses, Sarah and Bryan Smith’s Victorian in Logan Circle came with an awkward, old-fashioned bathroom.Putting a soaker tub within a walk-in shower, a concept popular in many European hotels, often called a wet room. The Smiths hired interior designer Kerra Michele Huerta to make the petite space live large. The latter is a floating style suspended from the wall, which gives the illusion of more space. It fit in the bathroom with about half an inch of space on either side.”The designer used clean-lined, minimalist tiles and fixtures to keep the room from feeling crowded.

We are tiling shower walls to ceiling in the master and guest shower on the bottom floor. The second floor has 8 feet ceilings and at this time we have not decided to tile the shower to the ceiling.

Wet Room practicality

I am contemplating making our current bathroom bigger by knocking down a wall between it and our previous (tiny) laundry.I would like to turn the laundry space into a wet room containing a double shower and the bath, much like this picture. My husband thinks having a bath in the same space as the shower is ridiculous.

Wet Room practicality
Can anyone who has a wet room comment on the practicalities (or not) of this layout, especially in regards to cleaning, please?

Many thanks.
